At the DevDay event, OpenAI announced new capabilities for its software engineering agent Codex, including reusable cloud development environments accessible across devices, a voice-enabled CLI, desktop application integration, and security tools.

Cloud Environments

OpenAI is moving its software engineering agent Codex beyond developers' laptops by introducing reusable cloud development environments accessible from any device. These new environments enable faster task initiation.

Developers can run Codex whether from a computer, remotely from a phone, or in the cloud, gaining a shared workspace with approved settings for teams.

Voice-Commanded CLI

The revamped Codex CLI allows developers to initiate and guide tasks using their voices. The new interface facilitates task delegation and multitasking tracking.

Additionally, improvements such as prompt editing, session resumption, and a more readable terminal interface are provided.

Code Review Features

Thanks to the new code review experience in the ChatGPT desktop application, users can ask Codex about potential issues on GitHub and GitLab pull requests before sharing feedback.

Automated code reviews allow Codex to perform initial reviews even when users are away from their computers.

Security Tools

To secure infrastructure, OpenAI is introducing a new toolkit called Codex Security Cloud. Developers can scan GitHub repositories on demand or on a scheduled basis.

Codex investigates findings, removes duplicates, and prepares fixes in the cloud even when the laptop is closed.

API Updates

A new Decisions API has been announced for real-time decision-making processes. This API uses Luna to answer user-defined questions.

The updated Agents API gains computer use support and the ability to build agents running on AWS with Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents.
