Üsküdar University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Türker Tekin Ergüzel stated that artificial intelligence applications in the healthcare sector offer revolutionary developments. Emphasizing that science must be put to the service of human welfare, Ergüzel predicted that the integration of artificial intelligence in surgery and psychiatry will become fully widespread in hospitals by 2030.

Artificial Intelligence and Data Growth in Healthcare

Stating that data production is increasing rapidly worldwide, Prof. Dr. Türker Tekin Ergüzel noted that healthcare data grows by approximately 40 percent each year. Mentioning that 30 percent of current global data belongs to the healthcare sector, Ergüzel recorded that this massive pool must be analyzed and processed correctly.

High Accuracy Rates in Psychiatry

Conveying that artificial intelligence-supported models have achieved significant successes in the classification of psychiatric diseases, Ergüzel explained that analyses conducted via EEG data have reached accuracy rates of up to 89 percent in obsessive-compulsive disorder, 93 percent in eating disorders, and 96 percent in types of addiction.

Algorithms Inspired by Nature

Stating that herd behaviors and ant colonies in nature are inspired in the development of artificial intelligence models, Ergüzel emphasized that thanks to swarm intelligence, the most accurate and efficient information can be selected from the large data pool.

Mind-Controlled Robotic Arms

Expressing that thanks to EEG-based systems developed using brain signals, individuals can move robotic arms simply by thinking, Ergüzel stated that this technology is a major source of hope, especially for paralyzed patients.

Surgical Prediction for the Year 2030

Stating that the success achieved in psychiatry gives hope for surgery and other branches, Prof. Dr. Ergüzel expressed that physician-supported artificial intelligence guidance systems will become widespread in hospitals much faster than expected by 2030.
