Students Using Artificial Intelligence Score Lower According to PISA 2025 Report
According to the OECD PISA 2025 report, science scores of students who use artificial intelligence every day for schoolwork are significantly lower.
The OECD's PISA 2025 education report revealed that test scores of students who use AI chatbots every day for school assignments are 28 points lower compared to those who do not use them.
Findings of the PISA 2025 Report
The PISA 2025 education report published by the OECD sheds light on the effects of artificial intelligence use on students.
While students who never use AI for assignments scored 509 points in the science test, the score of those who use it every day remained at 481.
Assessment by the Director for Education and Skills
OECD Director for Education and Skills Andreas Schleicher stated that learning occurs through productive cognitive effort engaged by the mind.
It was emphasized that if technology bypasses efficient effort in the learning process, the development of students will be hindered.
Concerns Over Offloading Cognitive Load
The risk of offloading cognitive load, which means students transferring challenging tasks to artificial intelligence, is increasing steadily.
This situation triggers broader discussions on banning artificial intelligence tools and mobile phones in schools.
Artificial Intelligence Use by Country
It was determined that the proportion of students stating they never or almost never use artificial intelligence for schoolwork is only 14 percent.
This rate stands at 4 percent in Vietnam, whereas it reaches nearly 40 percent in Japan.
