Architecture and Heritage Discussed at the Muğla International Culture and Art Festival
The historical heritage, ancient traces, and preservation culture of the city were comprehensively discussed at the festival and architecture gathering held in Muğla.
The 33rd International Culture and Art Festival and the 19th Architecture Gathering held in Muğla concluded with joint events at the Menteşe Konakaltı İskender Alper Cultural Center.
Architecture Gathering and Joint Events
The events held at the Menteşe Konakaltı İskender Alper Cultural Center brought together the 33rd Muğla International Culture and Art Festival and the 19th Architecture Gathering. It was stated that the concurrent launch of these two important events carries great significance.
Ancient Period Traces and Research
Architect Ertuğrul Aladağ made evaluations regarding the Ancient, Medieval, and Modern eras of Muğla. He drew attention to the fact that architectural traces belonging to the ancient period in the center have not been researched sufficiently.
Archaeological Findings and Deficient Studies
Ceramics and various small archaeological findings are located in the surrounding areas of Konakaltı, Asar, Kızıldağ, and Saburhane. On top of the Asar hill lies a hexagonal patterned foundation ruin. It was conveyed that archaeological studies in Muğla had previously started under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Adnan Diler but were not continued.
Preservation Culture and Historical Heritage
Menteşe Mayor Gonca Köksal Aras stated that Muğla's preservation culture began in the 1970s when the conservation movement in Turkey was still newly taking shape. It was emphasized that this situation is a great asset for the city.
Karabağlar Plateau and Living Culture
It was stated that the traditional living culture is still maintained in the Karabağlar Plateau, which is one of the largely preserved conservation areas. Attention was drawn to the fact that culture does not consist solely of buildings.
Transmission of Cultural Values
It was stated that cultural heritage also encompasses traditions, customs, rituals, the zeybek, and values passed down from generation to generation that must be protected. The importance of carrying historical heritage to future generations was emphasized.
Presentation of Plaque and Closing
At the end of the program, a plaque was presented to Architect Ertuğrul Aladağ by Menteşe Mayor Gonca Köksal Aras in recognition of his valuable contributions to the festival, bringing the event to a close.
