Mardin's Cultural Heritage Promoted in Croatia's Capital Zagreb

In events held in Croatia's capital Zagreb through the cooperation of Mardin Artuklu University and its stakeholders, the city's cultural heritage based on art, education, and history was promoted internationally.
Comprehensive Promotion Held in Zagreb
Mardin's cultural heritage was promoted with broad participation around art, education, and history in Croatia's capital Zagreb.
According to the statement made by Mardin Artuklu University, the Zagreb Embassy, the Zagreb Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center, MAU, and the Turkish Community Union of the Republic of Croatia carried out a joint effort.
Nurettin Çakmak's Asphalt Technique Exhibition
Within the scope of the program held at the Zagreb Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center, Mardin-born artist Nurettin Çakmak's 'Diversity of Cultures' exhibition was opened.
Çakmak's works, in which he portrayed Mardin's historical buildings and important figures using his unique asphalt technique, were watched with interest by the guests.
Colors of Mardin Panel and Participants
Following the exhibition, a comprehensive panel titled 'Colors of Mardin: Culture, Art, Education, and History' was organized.
MAU Rector Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özcoşar, writer and poet Ümit Yaşar Işıkhan, and artist Nurettin Çakmak participated in the panel as speakers.
Narratives of Writer Ümit Yaşar Işıkhan
Writer and poet Ümit Yaşar Işıkhan stated that he returned to Zagreb, which he first visited in 1986, after an interval of nearly 40 years.
During the panel, Işıkhan shared Mardin's stories, streets, people, multicultural life, and the prominent figures raised by the city with the audience.
Evaluations by Rector Özcoşar
MAU Rector Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özcoşar emphasized Mardin's ancient history and how it has hosted different civilizations for centuries.
Özcoşar stated that transmitting this multicultural structure, where different languages and beliefs live together, to future generations is of great importance.
Similarity Between Mardin and Jerusalem
In his speech, Rector Özcoşar drew attention to the historical and cultural similarities between Mardin and Jerusalem.
He stated that Mardin and Jerusalem are cities that bring together different communities with their multi-layered structures and build a bridge between the past and the present.
International Promotion of Cultural Heritage
In the sessions held, the critical role of art in making cultural heritage visible was discussed in detail.
Additionally, topics such as transmitting cultural values through education and academic studies, and promoting Mardin's accumulation in the international arena, were addressed.
