New Target for Haydarpaşa Station Compound Restoration is 2027
The opening schedule for the restoration and ground reinforcement work at the historical Haydarpaşa Station building has been updated due to identified shortcomings and new findings.
Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced that, following new findings obtained during the restoration and ground reinforcement work at the Haydarpaşa Station Compound, the first phase is targeted to be completed within 2027.
Condition of the Wooden Piles
Technical examinations revealed that out of approximately one thousand wooden piles included in the original projects of the historical station building, officially opened in 1909, only two hundred were in place. It was determined that about eighty percent of the piles had disappeared over time.
Liquefaction Risk in the Ground
Ground investigations identified a risk of liquefaction in the loose and water-saturated area. Technical reports demonstrated that if this risk materialized, settlement and lateral movement could occur in the structure.
Scientific Reinforcement Work
To protect the historical structure, bored piles and injection applications were implemented through a project prepared by expert engineers, reviewed by academic committees, and approved by the Advisory Board.
New Remains and Revision
Projects regarding infrastructure and visitor routes were reconsidered to protect the new remains discovered in the Archeopark area, and the work schedule was revised accordingly.
Protocol and Culture Center
Within the scope of the protocol signed between the Ministry and TCDD, the area is intended to be transformed into an attraction center featuring the Anatolian Side's first archaeology museum, a library, and art workshops.
