Renovated Elazığ Archaeology and Ethnography Museum Reopened to Visitors
The museum, reorganized in the historical 1885 Civil High School building, has opened its doors with thousands of years-old artifacts.
The Elazığ Archaeology and Ethnography Museum, redesigned with a secure and contemporary structure in its historical building, has entered service with a ceremony attended by Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.
A New Era in the Historical Building
Renewed to protect Elazığ's cultural heritage, the museum opened in the 1885 Civil High School (Mülkiye İdadisi) building taken over from the Ministry of National Defense.
The structure was prepared with a secure and contemporary concept, taking past terrorist attacks and earthquakes into consideration.
Rich Artifact Collection
Approximately 2,000 rare artifacts spanning from the Paleolithic Age to the Ottoman and Republican periods are exhibited in the new museum.
While the collection includes 934 archaeological artifacts, 482 ethnographic artifacts, and 522 coins, a special area has been dedicated to the Çaydaçıra tradition.
Broad Protocol Participation
In addition to Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, numerous protocol members and guests attended the opening ceremony.
Following the ribbon-cutting, the museum officially opened its doors to visitors.
A New Approach to Museology
In his speech at the opening, Minister Ersoy stated that museums are no longer just showcases where artifacts are exhibited.
It was stated that the new understanding transforms museums into education, science, and culture centers.
