Side Events Announced for the Ayvalık International Film Festival
Organized in partnership with the Seyir Association and the Ayvalık Municipality, the festival will feature various interviews, talks, and concerts alongside film screenings.
The Ayvalık International Film Festival, realized in cooperation with the Seyir Association and the Ayvalık Municipality, is preparing to host a rich side event program alongside bringing 76 films from 41 countries together with cinema enthusiasts.
Festival Preparations and Free Sessions
Carried out by the Seyir Association in cooperation with the Ayvalık Municipality, the festival will bring a total of 76 films from 41 countries to audiences across 6 different venues. Beyond film screenings, the organization will offer a comprehensive side program shaped around cinema, art, urban culture, and current issues. All talks and interviews to be held at ASKEV Sera and Fabrika Ayvalık will be completely free of charge for participants.
Urban Memory and the Vural Cinema Project
The talk titled Urban Memory, included in the event program, will focus on the Ayvalık's Cinema project receiving a grant from the Istanbul Culture and Arts Foundation (IKSV) Common: Culture, Dialogue, and Support Program. Within this scope, the goal of restoring the cinema hall function to Vural will be discussed in detail. Erkan Karasu, Fatih Kurunaz, İnci Vural, and Azize Tan will participate as speakers at the session to be held at ASKEV Sera on September 15.
International Selections and Musical Events
At Fabrika Ayvalık, the selection titled Wonderful Flowers and Fantastic Flowers, in cooperation with the Netherlands Eye Filmmuseum, will be presented to the appreciation of cinema enthusiasts. The screening, which will feature a speech by curator Elif Rongen, will be accompanied by a DJ performance by Kornelia Binicewicz. On September 16, following the talk titled Uncanny Istanbul's Haunted Places, the film Dracula in Istanbul will be screened free of charge.
Current Issues Interviews and Concert
The festival program will continue with current and sociological-themed interviews, within which the topic Where Are the Middle Classes Going? will be addressed on September 17. On September 18, the session named Gaiaporosis: The Consumption of the Commons will be held. The same evening, the band Bulutsuzluk Özlemi will give a concert at Pür Cunda, increasing the festival excitement.
Short Film and Animation Sessions
The richly contented event calendar also features special screenings and sessions focusing on different forms of the art of cinema. Within the program, sessions bearing the titles Brave and New Short and Animation Where Mummies Go to Dream will meet with cinema lovers.
Venues Hosting the Event
Among the venues that will host the culture and art gathering, the Rauf Denktaş Cultural Center stands out. Additionally, the Ayvalık Municipality Vural Cinema Nejat Uygur Stage, Fabrika Ayvalık, Büyük Park Amphitheater, and ASKEV Sera will host various screenings and interviews throughout the festival.
