A Turkish record was broken by handling a total of 22,896 TEU containers on the MSC Maya ship that docked at Asyaport Port in Tekirdağ.
Asyaport Planning and Technical Services Manager Besim Dönmez announced that this operation is the highest container handling volume achieved during a single ship call in Turkey.
Previous record surpassed
While it was noted that the previous Turkish record was also broken at Asyaport, it was stated that 6,000 TEU more containers were handled in the latest operation compared to the previous record.
This situation clearly demonstrated that the port's operational and technical capacity is being advanced further every day.
Gaining strength on a global scale
It was noted that this successful result elevates Asyaport to top ranks globally, and it was emphasized that investments in the port continue uninterruptedly.
It was reported that the infrastructure is continuously developed to provide uninterrupted service to higher tonnage ships.
Ongoing infrastructure investments
The second-phase extension investment that started at Asyaport in 2022 is planned to be completed in November 2026.
With the completion of this investment, it is targeted that the berthing area of the port will reach 2,800 meters.
Capacity and target increase
While it is aimed that three major ships, among the world's longest container vessels, will be able to dock at the port simultaneously, the goal is to raise the current annual capacity of 2.5 million TEU to 4 million TEU.
Additionally, it was stated that the number of cranes serving large ships has been increased to 15 within this scope.
Contribution to the economy and the region
It was stated that the investments made will provide significant contributions to the Turkish economy in terms of service exports, foreign exchange earnings, and employment.
It was emphasized that the main target at the port is to become the largest single terminal in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean.
