While the share of global e-commerce sales in total trade is increasing, it was reported that e-export logistics in Turkey are largely focused on light packages between 0-5 kilograms and the US market. Industry representatives stated that logistics must be designed primarily as a marketing tool.

E-Commerce and Cargo Ratios

Global e-commerce sales are projected to reach 21 percent of total trade. In Turkey, the share of e-commerce in total trade stands at 20 percent, and its share in the Gross Domestic Product is approximately 7 percent. Among cargo breakdowns, the share of 0-5 kilogram shipments reaches 90 percent.

This picture in the sector demonstrates that logistics processes and market diversity need to be reconsidered.

0-5 Kilograms and US Market Concentration

Navlungo Co-Founder and CEO İsa Korkmaz stated that there are significant market gaps in heavy shipment logistics. Korkmaz expressed that e-exporters are stuck with small packages and the US market, and new opportunities must be pursued to remain competitive.

Attention was drawn to the importance of designing the logistics process as a marketing weapon right from the start.

Trade Balance Between the US and China

İsa Korkmaz noted that the sanctions imposed by the US on China could open new doors of opportunity for many sectors in Turkey. It was stated that this situation could also have positive reflections on the e-export side.

Turning Return Processes into Opportunities

Asset GLI Board Member Avşar Dada conveyed that return rates are around 38 percent on average in Europe and 27-28 percent in America. Dada emphasized that return processes should not be seen as a loss, but as a resale opportunity.

It was stated that with the right logistics partner and digital inventory management, a returned product can be sold to another customer in a different market.

Risks of Wrong Logistics Choices

It was underlined that logistics is not just a cost item, but an operational management process. It was expressed that the use of inappropriate warehouses by exporters multiplies costs.

Warnings were issued that incorrect logistics choices and disruptions in online marketplaces could lead to the closure of stores.
