Euro Area Producer Prices Exceed Expectations in July

According to data released by the European Statistical Office, producer prices in the Euro Area increased by 1.6 percent on a monthly basis and 5.8 percent on an annual basis in July.

The European Statistical Office has shared the producer price index data for July for the European Union and the Euro Area with the public.

In the Euro Area, the PPI showed an increase of 1.6 percent on a monthly basis and 5.8 percent on an annual basis in July.

Market Expectations and Energy Impact

The general market expectation was for the Euro Area PPI to rise by 1.2 percent on a monthly basis, but the rates exceeded this expectation.

The 5.6 percent increase seen in energy prices played a decisive role in the monthly rise of producer prices.

Situation Across the European Union

Across the European Union, producer prices rose by 1.4 percent in July compared to the previous month and by 5.6 percent compared to the same period of last year.

Among member states, the highest monthly PPI increases were recorded in Ireland with 4.3 percent, and in Spain and Italy with 3 percent.

Changes by Country

In July, monthly PPI decreased by 3.3 percent in Estonia, 1.6 percent in Finland, and 1.1 percent in Sweden.

On an annual basis, it rose by 14.8 percent in Ireland, 12.9 percent in Lithuania, and 12.5 percent in Bulgaria, while declining by 7.3 percent in Luxembourg.
