Information and communication sector stands out in Turkish economy's growth streak

Turkey's economy grew by 2.3 percent in the second quarter of 2026, extending its uninterrupted growth streak to 24 quarters. The information and communication sector led with a cumulative increase of 58 percent.

Turkey's economy recorded a growth rate of 2.3 percent in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year. With this result, the economy brought its uninterrupted positive growth streak to 24 quarters.

GDP Data for the Second Quarter

Turkey's economy managed to grow by 2.3 percent in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period of the previous year.

Calculated by the production method at current prices, gross domestic product increased by 36 percent in the same period, reaching 19 trillion 869 billion 747 million liras.

Economic Value in US Dollars

According to the official data released, the dollar-based value of Gross Domestic Product in the second quarter materialized as 438 billion 347 million dollars at current prices.

24-Quarter Uninterrupted Process

Starting from the third quarter of 2020, Turkey's economy did not record negative growth in any period compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

The momentum captured with the post-pandemic recovery process was maintained despite gradual slowdowns, and the uninterrupted streak reached 24 quarters.

Sectoral Growth Performance

The fastest-growing sector over the past 24 quarters was information and communication activities with a cumulative increase of 58 percent, and the average annual growth rate was realized at 9.7 percent.

During the same period, other service activities grew by 53.2 percent, and trade, transportation, accommodation, and food services grew by 51.7 percent.

Development of Other Sectors

While growth in professional, administrative, and support services stood at 48.2 percent, real estate activities grew by 33.2 percent and the industrial sector by 23 percent.

Public administration, education, human health, and social services increased by 19.4 percent, finance and insurance by 14 percent, the construction sector by 13.5 percent, and agriculture, forestry, and fishing by 3 percent.

Expenditure Components and Foreign Trade

Resident households' consumption expenditures increased by 3.5 percent in the second quarter of 2026, while government final consumption expenditures decreased by 1.8 percent.

In the same period, gross fixed capital formation rose by 0.6 percent, while exports of goods and services declined by 3.4 percent and imports by 6.4 percent.
