Ministry of Trade launches a new era in discounted sales advertisements
The new regulation, enacted to protect consumers' economic interests, introduces strict oversight of price information and campaigns.
With the new regulation implemented by the Ministry of Trade, the requirement for truthful price information in discounted sales advertisements, the 10-day rule, and audits targeting various marketing activities have officially begun.
New era begins in discount advertisements
The Ministry of Trade continues its uninterrupted audits on discounted sales advertisements in order to protect the economic interests of consumers.
With the legal regulations made, new practices have been put into effect, especially regarding the determination of prices before discounts.
The lowest price of the last 10 days will be taken as the basis
Within the scope of the renewed legislation, the lowest price applied within the 10 days preceding the start date of the discounted sale will be used as the basis.
For perishable goods such as fruits and vegetables and various services, the price immediately preceding the discounted price will be taken into account.
New rules for different marketing areas
Conditional sales campaigns, targeted advertising, and advertising content generated by artificial intelligence have also been subjected to the new rules.
Commercial promotions by social media influencers, environmental claims, and consumer reviews are also among the areas being audited.
Heavy penalties for transactions contrary to the legislation
Severe administrative sanctions will be applied for advertisements and commercial practices determined to be contrary to the new regulations.
Within this scope, fines ranging from 108,370 liras to 39,916,524 liras can be imposed on companies.
