New Nuclear Energy Cooperation Agreement Between Turkey and the US
A technical evaluation project with a budget of approximately 2 million dollars targeting Small Modular Reactors and Generation IV Reactors has been implemented.
A grant agreement with a budget of approximately 2 million dollars targeting Small Modular Reactors and Generation IV Reactors was signed between Turkey Nuclear Energy Inc. and the US Trade and Development Agency at the Türkevi in New York.

During President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's visit to New York to attend the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations, a new cooperation in the field of nuclear energy was implemented between Turkey and the US.
At the signing ceremony held at Türkevi with the participation of Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, TÜNAŞ General Manager Dr. Necati Yamaç and USTDA Deputy Director Thomas R. Hardy signed the agreement.
Scope and Budget of the Grant Agreement
Within the scope of the approximately 2 million dollar agreement reached, SMR designs of 4 US companies and 5 different Generation IV reactor designs of US companies will be evaluated in terms of technical, economic, regulatory, and licensing aspects.
The expenses of this technical study, which will last for at least one year, will be covered by USTDA, and detailed technical reports will be prepared as a result of the process.
Topics to be Examined in Technical Studies
Critical elements such as design features of the reactors, costs, licensing status, and supply chain will be addressed in detail in the analyses to be conducted.
Additionally, comprehensive evaluations will be made by examining SWOT analysis, financing models, authorization, emergency response, design safety, site selection, and the legal framework.
Strategic Objectives and Foundations of Cooperation
Minister Alparslan Bayraktar emphasized in his social media statement that they are determined to diversify their energy basket in line with the 2053 Net Zero Emission and full energy independence targets.
It was recalled that the Strategic Civil Nuclear Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding was signed during the meeting between President Erdoğan and US President Donald Trump at the White House on September 25 of last year.
