The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation announced that analyses using Geographic Information Systems in the Tano Basin have identified a potential of over one billion barrels of oil and trillions of cubic feet of natural gas.

Major Discovery in the Tano Basin

In a statement made by Emmanuel Boadum Donkor, senior engineer at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, important data regarding the country's energy potential was shared.

Studies determined a potential of more than one billion barrels of oil and 2.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in the Tano Basin using Geographic Information Systems.

Cost Reduction Strategy

Donkor stated that thanks to GIS analyses, resources that appear difficult to develop commercially can be brought into production by integrating them with existing infrastructure.

It was reported that developing the resources as independent projects would require high investment costs, whereas utilizing existing infrastructure through shared hubs will lower costs.

Infrastructure Planning and Production Targets

It was stated that GIS technology helps plan investments by combining diverse data such as wells, pipelines, roads, and environmentally sensitive areas.

Bringing the identified resources into production could make a significant contribution to increasing Ghana's declining oil production, it was reported.

Discussions and Implementation Plans

It was noted that approximately 80 percent of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation's data contains location information.

Emmanuel Boadum Donkor announced that discussions are ongoing with relevant parties for implementation plans aimed at developing the identified resources through existing infrastructure.
