New regulation from the Ministry of Trade against fake consumer reviews on the internet
Amendments were made to the Regulation on Commercial Advertising and Unfair Commercial Practices to prevent consumers from being misled by fake reviews in online shopping.
The Ministry of Trade announced that a regulatory change has been implemented to prevent fake product reviews and consumer deception on the internet. With the new regulation, only genuine buyers are enabled to leave reviews, and these evaluations are ordered transparently.
New Step Against Fake Reviews
In a written statement made by the Ministry of Trade, it was explicitly stated that misleading citizens with fake product reviews on the internet will not be permitted.
Role in Purchasing Decisions
It was emphasized by the Ministry that consumer evaluations regarding goods or services play a crucial role in consumers' purchasing decisions.
Genuine Buyer Requirement and Ranking
Within the scope of the regulation, consumer evaluations are permitted to be made only by those who have purchased the relevant good or service, and these evaluations are ranked using objective criteria.
Publication Duration and Effective Date
Evaluations, without making any distinction between positive or negative, are published for a period of at least one year, and the regulatory amendment published in the Official Gazette has entered into force.
Administrative Sanctions and Inspections
It was reported that inspections by the Advertising Board are ongoing and administrative sanctions are imposed on sellers and providers acting contrary to the legislation in accordance with Law No. 6502.
