Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced that important changes have been made to the Turkish Food Codex Communiqué on Drinking Milk to ensure food safety and prevent consumer deception.

Fat Classification Reorganized

With the new regulation, the definition of "milk-based beverage" has been completely removed from the communiqué.

The fat classification in drinking milk can now only be made as whole fat, fatty, semi-fatty, and fat-free, and making any fat classification outside of these categories is strictly prohibited.

Rate and Sugar Limits in Flavored Milk

A lower limit of at least 1 percent by mass for the total flavoring ratio has been introduced for flavored drinking milk.

The amount of sugar that can be added is limited to a maximum of 5 percent by mass, and the total sugar ratio is limited to 9.5 percent.

Additives and Compliance Process

The addition of glucose and fructose syrups, other than sucrose, to milk has been prevented, and it was decided that only natural flavorings will be used as flavoring agents.

Food businesses operating before the publication of the communiqué are required to comply with the new regulations by March 31, 2027.
