Turkey's January-August foreign trade data announced
In the first eight months of 2026, exports rose to $185 billion 6 million and imports to $250 billion 791 million, while the foreign trade deficit increased.
Foreign trade data for the Turkish economy covering the January-August period of 2026 has been finalized. During this period, exports increased by 4 percent to reach $185 billion 6 million, while imports rose by 5.3 percent to $250 billion 791 million.
Eight-Month Foreign Trade Figures
Turkey's foreign trade performance for the January-August period of 2026 has been determined by official data. Compared to the same period of the previous year, exports went up from $177 billion 966 million to $185 billion 6 million.
On the import side, a higher increase was recorded, with the figure rising from $238 billion 172 million to $250 billion 791 million.
Foreign Trade Deficit and Coverage Ratio
The fact that imports grew faster than exports was directly reflected in the foreign trade deficit. In the eight-month period, the foreign trade deficit increased from $60.2 billion to $65.8 billion.
During the same period, the export-to-import coverage ratio declined from 74.7 percent to 73.8 percent compared to the previous year.
Prominent and Declining Countries in Exports
According to compiled information, country weights and sector dynamics in foreign trade shifted. Markets such as the USA, China, Switzerland, and Egypt managed to stand out in exports.
On the other hand, losses in terms of exports were observed in markets such as the UAE, Iraq, and the UK.
Effects of Sectoral Performancess
The performances of certain sectors were decisive in these changes on a market basis. While the electrical-electronic and chemical sectors were influential in the USA, mining came to the forefront in China.
In key market regions of Europe, the performances of the automotive and chemical sectors affected the foreign trade balance.
Changing Route in the Import Market
On the import side, purchases from China and USA accelerated, while imports from Russia and Germany recorded a decline.
Purchases from the top 20 countries with the highest volume of imports increased by 2.4 percent.
Transformation in the Supply Map
It drew attention that imports from markets outside the top 20 countries surged by 12.4 percent. This situation clearly demonstrated the change in Turkey's overall supply map.
