In line with the decision taken by the Capital Markets Board, Borsa İstanbul has implemented the up-tick rule for short selling transactions in shares included in the BIST 50 index. Effective from September 22, 2026, this regulation will remain in force in the markets until further notice.
Scope and Details of the Implementation
According to the official statement made by Borsa İstanbul, all shares included in the BIST 50 index that are eligible for short selling have been brought under the scope of the new regulation. The rule in question redefines the price criteria that investors must comply with when submitting short selling orders.
How the Up-Tick Rule Will Work
Under the up-tick rule, short selling transactions can only be executed at a price higher than the last traded price of the capital market instrument. If the last traded price is higher than the previous price, the sell order can also be executed at the last traded price level.
Warnings Regarding Intraday Transactions
The exchange management reminded that sales executed during the day without prior ownership and closed with purchases on the same day are also treated as short sales. It was emphasized that investors must select the short selling option when submitting such orders.
