Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli reacted strongly to the results of the jointly conducted "Perception of and Fan Support for Amedspor Among Kurds Research," stating that sports should be kept away from divisive rhetoric.
Sharp Statements Regarding the Research
Nationalist Movement Party Chairman Devlet Bahçeli evaluated the results of the study prepared in cooperation with the Kurdish Studies Center and Rawest Research with the support of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung.
Bahçeli criticized the situation, arguing that the study in question aims to keep the betrayal of separatism alive.
The Unifying Spirit of Sports and Calls
Underscoring that sports is a unifying and fraternity-focused element in his statement, Devlet Bahçeli stated that sports arenas should not be used for political purposes.
Bahçeli drew attention to the importance of all clubs, including Amedspor, staying away from attitudes and rhetoric that could increase social tensions.
Call for Sensitivity Against Provocations
Recalling that he had previously congratulated Amedspor on its success in promotion to the Süper Lig, the MHP leader asked the club and the people of Diyarbakır to be sensitive against potential provocations.
Bahçeli also noted that guiding survey studies brought to the agenda simultaneously should be regulated by legal arrangements.
