Employee participation remains low in free health check-ups in Ho Chi Minh City

Approximately 4 million people have benefited from the free health check-up program conducted in Ho Chi Minh City. However, the participation rate of workers in businesses remained at only around 10 percent, making this issue a focal point for authorities.

Interest in Health Screenings and Participation Rate

Within the scope of the free health check-up initiative implemented in Ho Chi Minh City, approximately 4 million citizens underwent health screenings. However, participation from business employees, one of the target groups of the program, remained well below expectations at around 10 percent.

Workers' Preferences and Current Situation

Many contract workers, such as garment factory employee Nguyen Thi Trang, stated that they did not feel the need to attend the neighborhood free health programs because they already undergo regular periodic health check-ups provided by their employing companies.

Businesses and the Need for Data Integration

Mr. Luu Kim Hong, Trade Union President of Nidec Vietnam Company, stated that businesses regularly conduct periodic health check-ups within the framework of legal obligations. Hong emphasized that a data integration must be established between corporate check-ups and the city program in order to prevent resource waste and duplicate procedures.

Authorities' Proposed Solutions and Goals

Associate Professor Dr. Tang Chi Thuong, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, noted that the program has entered a new phase due to certain segments of the population remaining distant from the screenings. The Health Department plans to conduct joint efforts with industrial parks, export processing zones, and local governments to increase participation.
