Minister Memişoğlu's Call for Global Health Justice and Gaza at the UN
Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu drew attention to the medicine and vaccine crisis in Gaza at the UN General Assembly, inviting the international community to unite around common humanitarian values.
In his speech at the high-level session of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu emphasized that a dire picture exists in Gaza, where innocent people cannot access essential medicines and vaccines.
Global Health Security
Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu addressed the High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response held during the opening week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
Stating in his speech that global health security is a shared responsibility, he expressed that no country can overcome these challenges alone.
Pandemic Process and Solidarity
Conveying that Turkey successfully managed the COVID-19 pandemic process thanks to its strong health infrastructure, Minister Memişoğlu said that citizens were not deprived of access to treatment.
He noted that the experience and resources gained during challenging days were transformed into a spirit of global solidarity, providing unconditional aid to countries in need.
Emphasis on Justice in Health
Underscoring that health is a fundamental human right just like the right to life, Memişoğlu drew attention to injustices in accessing health services.
Stating that the approach "the world is bigger than 5" also encompasses inequalities in the field of health, he called on all nations to unite around common humanitarian values.
The Dire Situation in Gaza
Stating that women and children are being massacred in Gaza and that innocent people cannot even access basic medicines, Minister Memişoğlu pointed out the severity of the situation.
He added that global health security and conscience cannot be spoken of in a world where people cannot reach medical treatment.
