New Health Facilities for Stray Animals from Karabağlar Municipality

Karabağlar Municipality has renovated and expanded the capacity of the Uzundere Animal Shelter and converted the Nazım Hikmet Animal Health Center into a Cat Spaying Center to ensure that stray and needy animals receive health services under modern conditions.
Renovated Facilities and Opening
Karabağlar Municipality has renovated the Uzundere Animal Shelter and increased its capacity for the treatment of sick cats and dogs throughout the district. Additionally, the Nazım Hikmet Animal Health Center was restructured as a Cat Spaying Center.
The opening ceremony was hosted by Karabağlar Mayor Helil Kınay, with the participation of mayors, chamber representatives, neighborhood heads, and animal lovers.
Emphasis on the Right to Life by Mayor Kınay
Speaking at the opening, Karabağlar Mayor Helil Kınay stated that cities do not belong solely to humans, but are living spaces shared with all living beings. Kınay noted that they provide services with 44 employees across 58 neighborhoods.
Support Messages from Institutional Representatives
İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Head of Veterinary Affairs Gökhan Özdemir stated that the center has been advanced to a much higher level. Halis Özcan from the İzmir Chamber of Veterinary Surgeons expressed that the investment contributes to public and environmental health.
Expanded Capacity and Equipment
At the 12,937-square-meter Uzundere campus, outdoor dog cages were renewed, increasing the capacity from 75 to 165. Furthermore, a Cat Treatment Center with a capacity of 87 hospitalized cats was established.
Spaying Appointments and Field Services
At the Nazım Hikmet Animal Health Center, citizens will be able to make appointments via the website for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Group spaying operations will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Savings Through Solar Energy
A 15 kW Solar Energy System consisting of 58 solar panels installed at the Uzundere campus will cover approximately 20 percent of the facility's annual electricity consumption.
