An access block was imposed by the Diyarbakır Criminal Judgeship of Peace on 99 social media accounts determined to have shared disinformation content aimed at misleading the public during the trial process of 8-year-old Narin Güran, who was murdered in Diyarbakır.

Latest developments in the judicial process

In the incident that occurred in Tavşantepe Neighborhood of Bağlar district in Diyarbakır, 8-year-old Narin Güran went missing on August 21, 2024, and her lifeless body was found in the Eğertutmaz Stream on September 19, 2024. The trial process conducted regarding this brutal murder continues with new legal decisions.

Aggravated life sentences upheld

In the main case regarding the murder, the aggravated life sentences given to mother Yüksel Güran, uncle Salim Güran, and brother Enes Güran for the crime of intentional murder of a child in participation were upheld by the Court of Cassation.

Nevzat Bahtiyar decision overturned

The prison sentence given by the court of first instance regarding neighbor Nevzat Bahtiyar, who confessed to carrying Narin Güran's lifeless body to the stream bed, faced an obstacle by the Court of Cassation and the defendant's sentence was re-evaluated.

Retrial and sentence modification

The Court of Cassation ruled that Bahtiyar's action could not be evaluated solely as destroying criminal evidence and overturned the decision. Following the reversal decision, Nevzat Bahtiyar, who was retried, was sentenced to 17 years in prison.

The Diyarbakır Criminal Judgeship of Peace decided to impose an access block on a total of 99 social media accounts determined to have made misleading and disinformation-containing posts against the trial process and the Court of Cassation decisions.
