Opening of European Week of Sports Held in Mardin
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the European Week of Sports held in Mardin, Governor Tuncay Akkoyun drew attention to the unifying and healing power of sports.
The opening ceremony of the European Week of Sports, held in Mardin under the coordination of the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports, took place at the Artuklu Indoor Sports Hall with the participation of protocol members, athletes, and students.
Start of the Ceremony
The program, held at the Artuklu Indoor Sports Hall, began with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem, and continued with colorful folk dance performances.
Governor Akkoyun's Speech
In his speech at the ceremony, Governor Tuncay Akkoyun emphasized Mardin's deep-rooted history and the climate of brotherhood maintained in tolerance among different cultures.
Akkoyun stated that the universal language of sports will further strengthen this climate of brotherhood and touched upon the importance of sports for healthy generations.
Award Ceremony
Following the activities held within the scope of the opening program, Governor Tuncay Akkoyun presented medals to successful athletes who ranked in various branches.
Statements by the National Athlete
National athlete Elif Berfin Altun, who has more than thirty championships and seventeen Turkey records in shooting, stated that sports are a special journey for her.
Altun recalled the championship she won at the European Youth Air Silahlar Championship held in Osijek, Croatia, in 2025.
