Vietnam accelerates next-generation vaccine production and domestic infrastructure investments
Vietnam is taking strategic steps in domestic vaccine production and technology transfer to enhance health security, expanding its capacity through new facilities and international partnerships.
Vietnam is implementing significant investments in the domestic production of next-generation vaccines and technology transfer to enhance health security and ensure national self-sufficiency.
Current Status of Domestic Production
Mr. Ta Manh Hung, Deputy Director of the Drug Administration of Vietnam under the Ministry of Health, reported that progress has been made in the technology transfer of numerous original branded drugs within the pharmaceutical sector.
However, it was emphasized that a significant gap still exists nationwide in the fields of vaccines and high-tech biological products, with the majority of next-generation vaccines not yet produced domestically.
Global Health and Modern Platforms
Biotechnology and vaccine technology are entering a new phase of development with modern production platforms such as mRNA, viral vectors, and recombinant proteins.
Considering global supply chain disruptions and pandemic risks, rapidly increasing domestic production and research capacity constitutes a critical component for national health security.
Tay Ninh Factory Investment
The Vaccine and Biological Products Factory, ground broken by VNVC in Tay Ninh, symbolizes the transition from large-scale distribution directly to high-tech manufacturing.
Established with an investment of over 2,500 billion VND, the facility aims to meet international standards such as WHO-GMP, EU-GMP, and US FDA-cGMP.
Production and Commercialization Schedule
According to the roadmap, the factory is planned to be completed and operational by the end of 2027, and to commence production in 2028.
The facility is projected to commercialize and introduce the first high-tech vaccines to the market starting in 2029.
International Collaborations
VNVC has signed an official contract with Germany-based Syntegon Group to establish a modern and automated vaccine production line.
Additionally, the international technology and research cooperation network is being expanded with global partners such as GSK, Pfizer, Sanofi, RDIF, and Medsintez.
