Turkey Increases Its Score in Three Core Areas in the PISA 2025 Study
According to the PISA 2025 results published by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, Turkey recorded increases in science, reading, and mathematics.
The results of the PISA 2025 study, conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) with the participation of 91 countries, revealed that Turkey increased its performance in all three core areas: science, reading skills, and mathematics.
PISA 2025 Results and Score Increases
Compared to the PISA 2022 results, Turkey recorded an 18-point increase in science, a 16-point increase in reading skills, and a 9-point increase in mathematics. This performance, which ran counter to the global trend, drew attention.
While the average scores of OECD countries declined by 3 points in science, 15 points in reading skills, and 9 points in mathematics, Turkey showed an upward trend in all three areas simultaneously.
International Comparisons and Rankings
Turkey’s science score rose to 494, while the OECD average remained at 482. Reaching 472 points in reading skills, Turkey surpassed the OECD average of 461.
Reaching 462 points in mathematics, Turkey approached the OECD average of 463 and significantly improved its ranking among the 38 OECD countries.
Student Achievement Levels
The proportion of students reaching the baseline proficiency level rose to 80.5 percent in science, 75.9 percent in reading skills, and 64.3 percent in mathematics.
The proportion of students demonstrating top-tier performance in science also increased from 4 percent to 7.4 percent, surpassing the OECD average of 7.2 percent.
Socioeconomic Status and Equality of Opportunity
In Turkey, the explanatory power of students' socioeconomic status on science achievement was recorded at 10.4 percent. Increases were noted in both disadvantaged and advantaged groups.
The observation of significant performance increases in both student groups was evaluated as an important development in terms of equality of opportunity in education.
Environmental Science and Digital Learning Areas
Scoring 494 points in the environmental science subscale, Turkey surpassed the OECD average of 480 and ranked 12th among OECD countries.
In the area of learning in the digital world, Turkey scored 473 points, remaining above the global average but below the OECD average of 500.
