Turkey's High-Speed Train Network to Reach 27 Provinces
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Uraloğlu announced the goal of increasing the number of provinces with direct high-speed train connections from 11 to 27 by 2028.
In line with Turkey's 2053 transportation targets, the railway network is being expanded and the number of provinces with direct high-speed train connections is aimed to be increased. With investments made in recent years, the total railway network has reached 13,919 kilometers.
Developments in the Railway Network
Turkey's total railway network has been increased from 10,948 kilometers to 13,919 kilometers over the past 25 years. During this period, 2,251 kilometers of high-speed train lines were built from scratch.
Target Figures for the Year 2028
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced the target of increasing the number of provinces with direct high-speed train connections from 11 to 27 by the year 2028.
In the upcoming period, it is planned to increase the total railway network to 17,287 kilometers by 2028 and raise the number of logistics centers from 12 to 25.
Ongoing Projects and Lines
Construction works are ongoing on the Ankara-İzmir, Halkalı-Kapıkule, Bandırma-Bursa-Yenişehir-Osmaneli, Mersin-Adana-Osmaniye-Gaziantep, Yerköy-Kayseri, Kırıkkale-Çorum, and Karaman-Ulukışla lines.
International Transportation and Corridor
With Marmaray and the Kars-Iğdır-Dilucu Railway Line, it is aimed to further strengthen Turkey's connection to the Middle Corridor between Asia and Europe.
Intercontinental transportation times via railway through Turkey are ensured to drop down to 18 days.
Domestic Production and Industry
While increasing the production capacity of TÜRASAŞ facilities, works are being carried out for the E5000 National Electric Locomotive, National Electric Train, suburban sets, and National High-Speed Train Set.
