Emine Erdoğan, Chair of the United Nations High-Level Panel of Eminent Persons on Zero Waste, sent a message to the World Economic Forum Sustainable Development Impact Meetings held in New York, drawing attention to the environmental threats facing the planet and the importance of the circular economy.
A Necessity for Our Future
Stating that current production and consumption systems are not capable of carrying humanity into the future, Emine Erdoğan expressed that the planet resembles a plundered mine.
Stating that oceans cannot breathe and cities cannot cope with their waste, Erdoğan emphasized that the circular economy is not an option, but an absolute necessity for our future.
Zero Waste Approach
Stating that the zero waste vision is not merely an individual waste management approach, Emine Erdoğan noted that this concept aims to redesign production and consumption models.
She expressed that the zero waste understanding plays a key role in redefining the relationship established with nature.
Future Goals
She stated that the transition to a circular economy will strengthen sustainable development and increase the orientation towards renewable energy sources.
She conveyed her wish to come together with program participants at the COP31 gathering to be held in Antalya.
