Two pilots lost their lives when a fighter jet crashed during an air show held near the Greek capital of Athens. The event, watched by thousands of people, was canceled following the tragedy.

Accident Occurs During Air Show

A Greek air force F-4 Phantom aircraft crashed during the Athens Flying Week air show at Tanagra Air Base, located north of Athens. Both pilots lost their lives at the scene in the crash, which occurred during a low-altitude maneuver. It was reported that no civilians were injured.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, extended his condolences to the pilots' families, and shared his grief regarding the incident. Cyprus Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas also called his counterpart Nikos Dendias to convey his condolences.

Firefighting Efforts and Eyewitnesses

The aircraft turned into a fireball upon impact, causing black smoke to spread over a large area; numerous fire trucks and aircraft were dispatched to the scene. Eyewitnesses stated that the aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff and that they experienced great shock.

National Mourning and Cancellation of Events

Following the tragic crash, organizers canceled all remaining events of the air show and cleared the area. Due to the loss, the Hellenic Air Force announced a three-day period of national mourning across the country.
