Ghent University Professors Criticize Accuser of Jason Arday

Academic Nathan Cofnas, who accused Cambridge University sociology professor Jason Arday of plagiarism, has been targeted by colleagues at Ghent University over his academic competence and allegations of a far-right agenda.

Controversial Appointment Process at Ghent University

Nathan Cofnas secured a postdoctoral research position on the future of liberalism at Ghent University in Belgium in March. Immediately following this appointment, the department of philosophy and moral sciences submitted a 19-page dossier to management stating that it was highly unlikely Cofnas was the best candidate.

Academics' Objections to Competence and Ideology

Ghent University professors argued that Cofnas had very limited expertise in the fields of political philosophy, liberalism, and demographics. The academics claimed there was a lack of transparency in the appointment process and that the selection was based on ideological preferences.

Investigation and Suspension Decision

While Ghent University management did not provide details on disciplinary procedures, the university suspended Nathan Cofnas last week pending the completion of a preliminary investigation. Cofnas, meanwhile, rejected the criticisms, arguing that his qualifications were publicly known.
