Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin visited Ankara TVF Sports High School and met with the students who became world champions at the 2026 World High School Volleyball Championship, as well as Turkish Volleyball Federation President Mehmet Akif Üstündağ.
Training Visit and Congratulations
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, together with Turkish Volleyball Federation President Mehmet Akif Üstündağ, observed the students' training session firsthand at Ankara TVF Sports High School. During the training, Tekin received detailed information from Üstündağ regarding the ongoing activities.
As part of his visit, Minister Tekin came together with the students who secured victory at the 2026 World High School Volleyball Championship, congratulating the athletes, coaches, and the federation.
The Thematic Sports High Schools Model
Mentioning his past terms as deputy minister and undersecretary, Minister Tekin stated that they have been working on a model that blends academic education with athletic training.
Thanks to this developed project school model, the objective is to discover children's talents at an early age and support their development, particularly in Olympic branches.
Emphasis on Cooperation with Federations
Touching upon the importance of the cooperation established with the Turkish Volleyball Federation, Minister Tekin expressed that this collaborative working culture has yielded very concrete successes.
He emphasized that they will continue to work in coordination with relevant federations to open similar thematic sports high schools in different provinces.
Early Age Skill Discovery
He stated that necessary legislative changes have been implemented to enable students to receive education at an earlier age in line with their talents.
In this direction, special schools accepting students starting from the middle school level have been opened not only in sports, but also in the fields of music and vocational-technical education.
Education in Eight Different Branches
He noted that, as the Ministry, thematic high schools have been established in a total of eight branches, namely football, volleyball, basketball, athletics, weightlifting, wrestling, swimming, and cycling.
He recorded that these high schools play a critical role in spreading sports to the grassroots and promoting Turkish youth internationally.
Message of Thanks from Üstündağ
Turkish Volleyball Federation President Mehmet Akif Üstündağ stated that Minister Tekin has always stood by the federation and quickly found solutions to problems.
Reminding that the school team has achieved two world championships and one third-place finish in the last three championships, Üstündağ indicated that the applied model has a major share in this success.
Evaluation with Teachers
Continuing his visit, Minister Tekin came together with educators in the school's teachers' lounge and explained the rationale and importance of establishing thematic schools.
The teachers also conveyed their thanks to Minister Tekin for his support for education and sports to date.
