Texas Tech University Enters the Top 100 in U.S. News Rankings

Texas Tech University climbed 13 spots to rank 96th among public universities and 186th overall in the 2027 Best Colleges rankings published by U.S. News & World Report.
Rise in U.S. News Rankings
According to the 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings released on Tuesday, Texas Tech University jumped 13 spots to place 96th in the public universities category.
Ranking at number 186 overall—a 12-spot increase from the previous year—the university has thus recorded an upward movement in the rankings for the fourth consecutive year.

University President Lawrence Schovanec stated that breaking into the top 100 among public universities is an encouraging reflection of the progress Texas Tech has made.
Schovanec emphasized that this success was achieved thanks to the dedication of the faculty and staff, the achievements of the students, and the focus placed on academic excellence.
Successes Achieved in Categories
Texas Tech managed to record significant improvement in nearly all categories ranked in the U.S. News report, climbing 12 spots in the Best Value category.
Additionally, it rose 17 spots to reach 128th in the Best Colleges for Veterans ranking, and placed 63rd in the best value for in-state students category among all U.S. universities.
Developments in Forbes and Niche Rankings
Not limiting its success to U.S. News, the university also rose 12 spots to 149th in the 2026-27 Forbes America's Top Colleges list, achieving its best ranking to date.
In the Niche rankings, which are based on student surveys and data, it showed an increase for the sixth consecutive year, placing 103rd out of 2,606 universities.
