PitchBook, a data provider for private and public equity markets, annually ranks the world’s best universities for producing startup founders. At Berkeley, a culture of startups and innovation has grown significantly, especially in recent years.

According to the released 2026 PitchBook data, UC Berkeley has reached the position of the most successful university in the world for the fourth time in terms of venture capital-backed companies and founders established by undergraduate alumni.

Leadership in PitchBook Rankings

According to the released 2026 university rankings, UC Berkeley ranked first in the world in terms of startups founded by undergraduate alumni.

University alumni have founded a total of 2,155 companies to date, with 2,380 entrepreneurs contributing to this success.

Major Achievement in Female Entrepreneurship

In line with the published data, the title of the university with the highest number of company founders among its female alumni also belongs to Berkeley.

A total of 345 female entrepreneurs who graduated from the school played a significant role in establishing venture capital-backed companies.

Surpassing Competitors

In the evaluations conducted, Berkeley managed to surpass prominent institutions such as Stanford, Harvard, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Based on projects that received first-round venture capital over the past 10 years, Stanford ranked second in the overall standings.

Contribution to the Regional Economy

It was determined that campus-affiliated startups created high-paying employment in the region and generated significant economic value.

Local startups contributed to generating over 300 million dollars in regional economic value across Alameda County.

New Investments and Facilities
