US Sanction Decision Against Turkish Bank and Legal Action
The US Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on a Turkish bank and its subsidiaries over alleged ties to Iran. Responding to the decision, the bank announced it will resort to legal channels.
The US Department of the Treasury decided to impose sanctions on Golden Global Yatırım Bankası Anonim Şirketi on the grounds that it was linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force and facilitated Tehran's fund transfers. Following the decision, the bank denied the allegations and announced it would initiate legal proceedings.
Reasons Behind the US Sanctions Decision
The United States Department of the Treasury claimed that Golden Global Yatırım Bankası Anonim Şirketi and its subsidiaries mediated millions of dollars in transactions for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force.
The Washington administration alleged that the Turkish bank in question provided banking access for the Iranian government to move its funds internationally and played a role in the transfer of oil revenues.
Strong Reaction and Legal Step from Bank Management
Golden Global Bank stated that it fully complies with all local and international banking compliance rules and announced that it will resort to legal channels against the sanctions imposed by the US.
In the statement made by the bank, it was emphasized that there were no transactions to substantiate the US allegations, and it was stated that the necessary rights of objection against the decision and allegations would be exercised in the most effective manner.
Treasury Department Statements
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated in an official release that financial institutions clearly see their resolve regarding Operation Economic Isolation.
With the ministry decision, the bank and its two subsidiaries were included in the Specially Designated Nationals list of the US Office of Foreign Assets Control and excluded from the American financial system.
Messages Regarding the Turkish Financial System
US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack stated that it would be a mistake for Turkish authorities to evaluate this narrow-scoped measure taken as a judgment against all of Turkey.
Ambassador Barrack expressed via a social media platform that the health of the Turkish financial system is not a subject of any debate, and that the situation is solely related to the actions of a single institution.
