Public Health Specialist Prof. Dr. Yasemin Açık stated in her remarks for the September 3-9 Public Health Week that citizens should be cautious against health recommendations circulating on digital platforms and leave treatment decisions to physicians.

Digital Media and Health Information

Prof. Dr. Yasemin Açık emphasized that not every health information encountered on the internet may be reliable and stated that recommendations on digital platforms should not be blindly trusted. Citing Ministry of Health research, she drew attention to the fact that the internet and social media have become widespread sources of information.

The Importance of Health Literacy

Experts noted that true health literacy does not mean merely accessing information; understanding the information, evaluating its reliability, and using it correctly are of critical importance.

Herbal Products and Artificial Intelligence

Stating that natural or herbal products are not suitable for every constitution and carry the risk of severe drug interactions, Açık noted that artificial intelligence tools are also insufficient for diagnosis and treatment decisions, and these processes must be carried out under physician supervision.
