One of the leading figures of Spanish dance, Aída Gómez brings Georges Bizet's classic work Carmen to the stage with her own choreographic interpretation. Taking place as part of the Istanbul Cultural Route Festival, this special performance brings the dramatic power of flamenco and Spanish dance to the Atatürk Cultural Center.
A New Interpretation of Carmen
Aída Gómez brings the character of Carmen to the stage not merely around the axis of love and jealousy, but as a strong female figure devoted to her freedom and making her own decisions. In the show, Georges Bizet's music is blended with compositions by flamenco guitarist José Antonio Rodríguez.
Aída Gómez's Artistic Career
Starting her career at the Ballet Nacional de España at the age of 14, Gómez quickly rose to principal dancer, having the opportunity to work with figures such as Antonio Gades and Maurice Béjart. Becoming the institution's youngest artistic director in 1998, the artist was awarded the National Dance Award by the Spanish Ministry of Culture in 2004.
