Leaders Met in Bishkek: Akkuyu and Economic Cooperation Discussed

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Kyrgyzstan's capital Bishkek, where he was visiting for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit.
Bilateral Meeting at the Bishkek Summit
President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan came together with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, where he traveled for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit.
Prior to the critical meeting, the two leaders made statements to the press, emphasizing the importance of bilateral relations and regional issues.
Akkuyu and New Nuclear Steps
President Erdoğan stated that Turkey-Russia relations are progressing at a much more advanced level compared to any other period.
Noting that joint steps will be taken to establish new power plants following the opening of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, Erdoğan recorded that preparations in this direction are ongoing.
Emphasis on Economic Partnership
Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed that Turkey is one of Russia's priority and privileged commercial and economic partners.
Putin stated that thanks to Erdoğan's personal follow-up, the level of economic cooperation remains high and joint projects are being carried out with determination.
Tourism and First Unit Target
Putin stated that instructions have been given for the first unit of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant to be commissioned by the end of this year and that this will happen.
The Russian leader also added that approximately 7 million Russian tourists visited Turkey during 2025.
