Nearly 600 million euros in new resources to combat mucilage in the Sea of Marmara
As a result of contacts with the French Development Agency, significant financing was secured for environmental projects and the revitalization of the ecosystem.
Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum announced that following negotiations with the French Development Agency, projects will be developed with a new financing package of approximately 600 million euros to combat mucilage in Turkey.
Critical Meeting Held in Paris
COP31 President and Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum met with French Development Agency Director General Christophe Lecourtier in the French capital, Paris.
Following this strategic meeting, the critical importance of access to financial and technological opportunities in the process of combating the climate crisis was emphasized.
Giant Resource to Combat Mucilage
It was announced that a new financing package of approximately 600 million euros will be implemented throughout Turkey in partnership with the French Development Agency.
With this significant financial support, it is aimed to raise the quality of wastewater treatment facilities in the seas.
Revitalization of the Marine Ecosystem
Within the scope of the projects to be developed, it is planned to reduce the amount of nitrogen and phosphorus in the seas and to revitalize the ecosystem.
Additionally, it was stated that efforts to increase the share of renewable energy sources across the country will gain momentum.
COP31 Action Plan and Cooperation
Minister Kurum stated that they discussed the COP31 Action Plan under ten different headings and shared its details during the meeting.
During the meeting, issues such as the global climate crisis, potential disasters, early warning systems, and the strategic partnership carried out with the OECD were evaluated.

French Development Agency Director General Christophe Lecourtier expressed their pleasure in hosting Minister Kurum in Paris.
Lecourtier conveyed that they are pleased to cooperate on adaptation studies in the Sea of Marmara, the transition of Turkish industry to clean energy, and the protection of biodiversity.
