Total deposits of the banking sector exceeded 33.7 trillion liras
According to Central Bank data, total deposits of the banking sector increased compared to the previous week, reaching 33.7 trillion liras.
According to weekly monetary and banking statistics announced by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, total deposits of the banking sector recorded a significant increase in the week ending August 28.
Rise in Deposits
According to data from the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, in the week ending August 28, total deposits of the banking sector increased by 70 billion 377 million 389 thousand liras, reaching 33 trillion 720 billion 5 million 640 thousand liras. Total deposits of the sector showed an increase of 0.21 percent in the said week.
TL and Foreign Currency Deposits
In the same period, deposits in Turkish liras increased by 0.98 percent to 18 trillion 486 billion 263 million 313 thousand liras. Deposits in foreign currency decreased by 0.75 percent to 11 trillion 99 billion 173 million 146 thousand liras.
Status of Domestic Residents
While total foreign currency deposits in banks stood at 271 billion 72 million dollars, 231 billion 357 million dollars of this amount were in the accounts of residents in the country. According to data adjusted for parity effects, a decrease of 2 billion 715 million dollars was recorded in the total foreign currency deposits of domestic residents as of August 28.
Credit Volume and Consumer Loans
Consumer loans of domestic residents in the banking sector increased by 1.87 percent last week to 6 trillion 896 billion 133 million 834 thousand liras. The total credit volume of the sector, including the Central Bank, also increased by 324 billion 482 million 783 thousand liras in the week ending August 28, reaching 27 trillion 286 billion 131 million 567 thousand liras.
