Turkey leads Europe in the number of electric vehicles and charging sockets

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated in a speech at a workshop held in Samsun that the number of electric vehicles in Turkey exceeded 450,000 as of the first half of 2026, and the number of charging sockets reached approximately 47,000, announcing that they are the leader in Europe in terms of the number of vehicles per socket.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu shared current data regarding the development of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure across Turkey.
It was reported that as of the first half of 2026, the number of electric vehicles in Turkey exceeded 450,000, and the number of charging sockets reached approximately 47,000.
Emphasis on European Leadership
Minister Uraloğlu stated that thanks to this achieved infrastructure and vehicle numbers, Turkey holds a leading position in Europe in terms of the vehicle-to-socket ratio.
Samsun Workshop Evaluation
The statements were made at the Samsun Workshop Final Conference of the Zero Waste Environment and Climate Change Workshops held at the Martyr Ömer Halisdemir Multipurpose Hall.
The Samsun leg of the works carried out by the Zero Waste Foundation was discussed under the host of Ondokuz Mayıs University.
Emission Targets in the Transportation Sector
It was conveyed that the transportation sector holds a significant share in global greenhouse gas emissions, and Turkey continues its efforts in line with net-zero emission targets.
Split Road and Environmental Contributions
It was noted that the length of split roads across the country has been increased to 30,120 kilometers, thereby preventing 6.57 million tons of carbon emissions annually.
Railway and Aviation Investments
It was stated that it is aimed to increase the share of railways in freight transport, and in aviation, Turkey ranks among the top in the world with 52 carbon-free airports.
