Ministry of Health Updates National Vaccination Schedule: Chickenpox Vaccine Increased to Two Doses
The Ministry of Health has increased the chickenpox vaccine to two doses. According to the new schedule, the first dose will be administered at the 12th month, the second dose at the 48th month, and a catch-up vaccination will be initiated for children aged 49-72 months.
The Ministry of Health updated the National Childhood Vaccination Schedule to more effectively protect children against the chickenpox disease, converting the single-dose application into a two-dose program.
New Era in Chickenpox Vaccine
With the update made by the Ministry of Health, the chickenpox vaccination program administered to children in Turkey has been reorganized. Previously administered as a single dose at the end of the 12th month, the vaccine will now be applied in two doses to increase immunity.
New Vaccination Schedule and Application Ages
According to the current schedule, the first dose of the chickenpox vaccine will be administered to infants who have completed their 12th month. The second dose will routinely begin to be administered at the 48th month, which is the period when the child turns 4 years old.
Catch-Up Vaccination and Community Immunity
With the goal of reducing cases that may occur in communal living areas, a catch-up vaccination will be implemented for children between 49 and 72 months during the transition period. Families can apply to family health centers for detailed information.
