Simultaneous Operations Conducted Against Social Media Influencers Across Ten Provinces
In an Istanbul-centric investigation, 10 people, including Onur Sermik and Semih Varol, were detained due to their social media posts.
In line with an investigation coordinated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, simultaneous operations were carried out against social media influencers in 10 provinces, including Bursa. As a result of the operation, 10 suspects, including Onur Sermik and Semih Varol, were detained.
Virtual Patrols and Reviews
Virtual patrol work was carried out by teams from the Istanbul Police Department's Public Order Branch and Cyber Crimes Branch. As a result of the examinations, it was determined that some suspects made posts containing fights, threats, insults, tension, and victimhood during live broadcasts on social media platforms.
Accusations and Detection of Generating Income
It was determined that the suspects produced content deemed contrary to the family structure and acted together to generate digital income through these broadcasts. The suspects were evaluated as having committed the crimes of Inciting the Public to Hatred and Hostility or Degradation, and Obscenity.
Simultaneous Raids in Ten Provinces
Following the ongoing work, simultaneous operations were organized in a total of 10 provinces, centered in Istanbul, including Ankara, Antalya, Bursa, Kocaeli, Muğla, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Malatya, and Elazığ.
Detained Names
During the operation, Sinan Kaya, Cansum Kaya, Ferhat Billor, Çağlayan Yıldırım, Onur Sermik, Elif Akdemir, Onur Can Güzel, Mehmet Emin Citer, Mehmet Aden Arslan, and Semih Varol were detained.
Procedures at the Police Station
Tests to detect the use of drugs or stimulants were administered to the detained suspects. Legal procedures for the ten suspects at the Public Order Branch Directorate are ongoing.
