A New Era of Next-Generation Technology Cooperation Between Vietnam and Japan

Speaking at the Vietnam-Japan Local Cooperation Forum 2026 held in Hue city, Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan urged the two countries to increase technology and innovation-oriented joint projects.
Strategic Partnership and a New Era
The deep-rooted friendship and reliable cooperation between Vietnam and Japan were emphasized more than half a century after the establishment of diplomatic relations. The elevation of relations to the level of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has initiated a new phase of cooperation between the two countries.
Structural Transformation in Cooperation
Minister of Science and Technology Vu Hai Quan stated that bilateral relations should move beyond the processing and assembly stage that has been predominantly carried out until now. In the new period, it was requested that the focus be on science, technology, innovation, research, and development.
Concrete Projects and Financing Framework
Cooperation memorandums of understanding signed between ministries in the fields of ICT and digital transformation drew attention. Additionally, five joint research projects on semiconductors were implemented under the NEXUS Program.
Four Focus Areas for the Future
Minister Vu Hai Quan proposed that the forum focus on four core issues. Within this framework, the establishment of local innovation centers, the promotion of technology transfer, and the proliferation of green technologies are targeted.
