Wearable Sock System Developed for Restless Legs Syndrome Patented

In a collaboration between Bartın University and Yıldız Teknik University, a new technological system has been developed to offer a solution to restless legs syndrome, one of common health problems. Combining pressure, vibration, and transcutaneous electrical stimulation, the wearable sock system has been registered as a utility model by TÜRKPATENT.

Features of the Developed System

Combining pressure, vibration, and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation methods within a wearable sock, the invention offers a novel approach to patient treatment.

The vibration motors and sensors included in the system can be positioned at physician-determined points on the lower leg.

Sensor and Pressure Mechanism

An electric air pump, which sends air into the cuff wrapping around the lower leg of the sock, ensures the desired level of pressure is created on the leg.

IMU sensors detect periodic and non-periodic movements in the legs and transmit the obtained data directly to the controller.

Smart Control and Recording Process

The controller automatically processes movement information coming from the sensors to calculate frequency and periods.

Following the classification, appropriate rates of pressure, vibration, and electrical stimulation are delivered to the patients, and all changes are recorded.
