The 2027 best universities ranking prepared by U.S. News has been announced, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology rose to first place in the National Universities category.

The annually published U.S. News Best Universities ranking was shared with the public, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which was previously in second place, claimed the number one seat.
Change in Ranking Methodology
In a notable update to the disclosed new ranking methodology, post-graduation earnings by major were included at a five percent rate instead of the graduate debt metric in the formula.
Institutional Data Reporting Rate
While the vast majority of schools within the scope of the research continued to report data, seventy-three percent of the approximately one thousand five hundred institutions included in the ranking submitted their statistical information.

California Institute of Technology rose from eleventh to fifth place, while Williams College and Amherst College maintained their first and second-place rankings respectively in the National Liberal Arts Colleges category.
