Caspar van den Berg, president of Universities of the Netherlands (UNL), and State Secretary for Defence Derk Boswijk signed a letter of intent to carry out joint efforts against the country's rising security threats.
Concerns Over Academic Freedom
The Dutch National Union of Students (LSVb) argued that external funding and military guidance could harm independent research, threatening academic freedom with the agreement.
Increasing Defence Budgets
The defence budget in the Netherlands is planned to increase significantly next year, reaching 26.8 billion euros, with a portion of this allocated to knowledge and innovation projects.
MIND Tech Center and Projects
Established on the TU Delft campus, the MIND Tech Center hosts joint work by the ministry and start-ups on defence technologies, cybersecurity, and drone technologies.
