News Organizations Seek Court Order to Block White House Access Ban
Leading media organizations have petitioned the court to suspend the enforcement of the White House access ban until the litigation is resolved.
CNN, MS NOW, and Politico have requested a preliminary injunction from the court to prevent the Trump administration from enforcing the White House press access ban until the lawsuit is resolved.
Preliminary Injunction Request
Three media organizations—CNN, MS NOW, and Politico—filed a preliminary injunction application in federal court to prevent the Trump administration from enforcing the White House access ban.
Temporary Restraining Order
The organizations stated that despite U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly issuing a two-week temporary restraining order last week, the administration continued to enforce the ban inconsistently.
While the current temporary order is set to expire on October 8, the newly filed request aims to protect access until the case is fully resolved.
Legal Arguments and Defense
Lawyers for the media organizations characterized the administration's actions as retaliation and viewpoint discrimination, whereas Solicitor General Todd Blanche argued that access is a privilege rather than a right.
Press Pool and Support
While the dispute has affected the White House pool reporting, the ACLU of the District College also submitted an amicus curiae brief supporting the media organizations.
