Microsoft Offers Exit Packages To 60,000 Staff As Company Pours Money Into AI

Microsoft has started offering voluntary exit packages to approximately 60,000 employees to optimize costs while allocating massive budgets to artificial intelligence technologies.

Technology giant Microsoft has offered voluntary exit packages to 60,000 employees, corresponding to roughly a quarter of its workforce, to finance artificial intelligence investments and reshape its cost structures. According to a company spokesperson, personnel at the vice president level and below in specific teams in the US, Canada, India, and the UK will be eligible for these packages.

However, certain groups working in data centers, sales, and marketing departments were excluded from this offer. Microsoft Chief Human Resources Officer and Senior Vice President Amy Coleman stated in an informational memo sent to employees that the Voluntary Separation Offer is an important part of their change approaches and provides employees with the flexibility to shape their own next career steps.

This move was recorded as the company's second voluntary exit offer carried out this year. In April, an early retirement option was offered to about 7% of the workforce in the US, and according to CNBC reports, roughly 30% of eligible personnel accepted this plan. According to official filings, Microsoft's global employee count was at the 223,000 level at the end of June, while this figure was 228,000 at the end of 2025. It is anticipated that approximately 27% of the company's staff could benefit from the new offer.
