Students in Pennsylvania Develop Ethical Artificial Intelligence Models
The AI Horizons summit, organized under the Pennsylvania Creates initiative, enabled young people to build artificial intelligence models in compliance with ethical rules.

Details of the Artificial Intelligence Summit
Trevor Manno, an 18-year-old senior at West Allegheny High School, stated that he finds artificial intelligence useful for creating flashcards and study materials.
Manno and about 150 young people from the region participated in the student summit held at the Bakery Square complex in Pittsburgh's East End neighborhood.
The Pennsylvania Creates Initiative
During the event, students were tasked with using artificial intelligence models to design a new state mascot as part of the broader Pennsylvania Creates initiative.
This initiative aims to help students build and develop their own artificial intelligence models in line with ethical principles.
Inter-Institutional Collaboration
The Pennsylvania Creates project is conducted through a collaborative partnership between Remake Learning, the AI Strike Team, the Allegheny Intermediate Unit, the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, and Carnegie Mellon University's Entertainment Technology Center.
New Guidelines on the Way for Schools
State Education Secretary Carrie Rowe announced that the Department of Education will publish guidelines regarding artificial intelligence for schools by January.
Rowe emphasized focusing on digital citizenship and safe, controlled environments for students rather than steering away from the technology.
